A Moment of Tragedy
A Moment of Tragedy
Tragedy struck our small community today. Yasir Khalifa, one of the summer instructors in the CS courses, was killed today in a Jet Ski accident just off of the Corniche. He and his 12-year old son, Malek, were riding on a Jet Ski and it collided with another vessel. Malek, who suffered broken arm bones that required surgical repair, is expected to make a full recovery. Yasir’s wife, AnnMarie Zanger from the CMU CS department, and Malek had just joined Yasir for a planned vacation to his country of origin, Syria.
All of us summer instructors had dinner together on Wednesday night. Yasir and I had plans to go thobe shopping later in the day Saturday or Sunday. This type of event stuns a small, closely knit group like the CMU-Q campus. We are all reeling.
