"Gleason's theorem for non-separble Hilbert spaces"

Abstract:

We generalize Gleason's theorem on the measures on the set of closed subspaces of a Hilbert space to the non-separable case. Our key tools are (a) Boolean valued models and (b) some rather exotic measure theory. Our theorem, however, is provable in ZFC even though large cardinals are lurking in the background. [Joint work with Paul Chernoff.]
