The following is the current AUO Constitution, including amendments of February 26, 2012.
The name of this organization shall be the Carnegie Mellon All University Orchestra, abbreviated as AUO. Carnegie Mellon University will be referred to as the "University".
The AUO provides an opportunity for any person affiliated with the University, including but not limited to students, staff, faculty, or alumni, to rehearse and perform in a symphony orchestra in a recreational manner.
Membership in the AUO shall be open to all persons affiliated with the University. Members must provide the musical instrument that they wish to play unless the instrument can be supplied by the AUO. Regular attendance and a donation of ten dollars per semester are the only further requirements for membership.
The AUO does not discriminate in membership on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, handicap, religion, creed, ancestry, belief, age, veteran status, sexual orientation or gender identity as stated in the Statement of Assurance of the University.
The offices of the AUO shall be the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Librarian, Webmaster, Fundraising Chair, and Publicity Chair. The Librarian office may be held by more than one person.
All officers shall have been members of the AUO for at least one semester prior to their election.
Officers shall be elected during one rehearsal in the spring semester no later than the third week of April, and their terms of office shall be one year from May 15 to May 14 of the following year. Vacancies for any office except for the President shall be filled by a special election if the position is vacated before February 1 or by appointment by the executive board afterwards. A vacancy of the Presidency shall be filled by the Vice President.
The duties and obligations of the President include, but are not limited to, maintaining and extending membership, representing the AUO in interactions with the orchestra director, the University, Student Senate, and the College of Fine Arts, and otherwise ensuring that the necessary resources are available for AUO activities.
The duties and obligations of the Vice-President include, but are not limited to, ensuring the presence of music stands and other equipment for rehearsal, reserving rooms for AUO events, assisting the President in his duties, and fulfilling the duties and obligations of the President when the President cannot.
The duties and obligations of the Secretary include, but are not limited to, taking attendance at AUO rehearsals, creating publicity materials, and creating the concert programs for AUO concerts.
The duties and obligations of the Treasurer include, but are not limited to, handling monetary matters of the AUO, to prepare a budget of the AUO, and to submit reimbursements for all expenses incurred for assets, materials, and services for the AUO.
The duties and obligations of the Librarian(s) include, but are not limited to, maintaining the music library of the AUO, and to ensure that all members have access to the music played in rehearsals.
The duties and obligations of the Fundraising Chair include, but are not limited to, consulting with the Treasurer on monetary matters, initiating and overseeing all necessary fundraisers, and organizing a Fundraising Committee to assist in carrying out all fundraising activities.
The duties and obligations of the Webmaster include, but are not limited to, maintaining and updating the official webpage of the AUO and the electronic mailing list of AUO members.
The duties and obligations of the Publicity Chair include, but are not limited to, organizing and implementing an advertising strategy for the different concerts. Methods of announcements may include flyers, emails, online calendar postings, social network event pages, newspaper ads, local community or church bulletin ads, and radio ads.
Amendments may be made to this Constitution at any time given the support a two-thirds majority of the members of the AUO.
