So i picked up a Infrared Emitter and Detector from RadioShack and wired it up to my lamp.
The wiring took a little trial and error, but i soon figured out the detector acts just like a switch.
the ir led lights up a little in the video, but in the real life it is invisible.
the emitter need to be lined up just right with the detector to set it off
