Archimedes' Screw Pic
Supply List
- ???
- An Archimedes' Screw is a special inclined plane used to lift objects using rotation in combination with gravity
- The screw assembly is constructed using octagonal pieces of cardboard cut according to *this* template, mounted to a central cardboard post and further fitted to an axle, crank, and support structure.
- The goal of the Archimedes' Screw is to demonstrate to the kids that by cleverly manipulating simple machines such as inclined planes or ramps you can make work easier:
- rotating a crank is easier to do than lifting the loads using buckets or other simple methods, such as motors.
- allows semi-continuous flow of objects
- Please note, some power tools, hot glue, and sharp tools are necessary to build the screw and support structure.
