Pittsburgh Habitat for Humanity


Pittsburgh Habitat for Humanity (PHH) is an ecumenical, non-profit housing ministry working in partnership with economically disadvantaged families to build houses whcih they buy with a no-profit, no-interest mortgage. The houses are built primarily by volunteers and financed by donations. Pittsburgh Habitat was formed in 1986 to eliminate substandard housing in the economically depressed Mon Valley, and is now active in Braddock, Wilkinsburg, the Hill District, and Homestead.

Service Opportunities:

  • Construction crew: No skills are required to join a crew doing various stages of construction including demolition, framing, insulation, dry wall, painting, roofing, and more.
    Note: Call the office for current schedule and worksite locations.
  • Office volunteers: Includes data entry, answering phones, mailings, filing, photocopying, etc.
    Note: Specific schedule and tasks will be determined by volunteer.
  • Speakers Bureau: present the history, mission and volunteer opportunities of Pittsburgh Habitat to various interested groups.
    Note: Training workshop required.
