Every year, Carnegie Mellon's campus community gathers together in the spring to host a day of service events, with the goal being to get over 1000 students to participate. Alpha Chi Omega is just one of the many organizations on campus that creates a team and goes out into the local Pittsburgh area to do service and donate their time.

In 2012, Alpha Chi Omega teamed up with Kappa Sigma fraternity to help clear trash and debris from the South Side Slopes park area.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

violence awareness
Domestic Violence Awareness is Alpha Chi Omega's national philanthropy. During October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, sisters gather together and host bake sales, knit scarves, and collect donations to support both the Pittsburgh Women's Shelter and the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation, donating annually to various charities which help victims and raise awareness about domestic violence. This past year we raised over $500 to donate to our national foundation, as well as knit scarves to donate to the local women's shelter to help keep them warm in the coming winter months.

Hera Day

Hera Day is Alpha Chi's day of service. On March 1st, we hold a chapter-wide service event, and we celebrate our sisters for their service achievements.

In 2009 we, along with the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, had a "senior prom", spending the afternoon socializing and dancing with the seniors citizens in residence.

Trick or Treat for Canned Goods

In 2009 we began an annual Trick Or Treat for Canned Goods. Sisters gathered together on Halloween and went trick-or-treating in local Pittsburgh neighborhoods collecting canned foods and non-perishables. We then gathered all of our collections together and donated them to Cans Across the Cut, a Carnegie Mellon initiative in which groups compete to gather the largest amount of cans, then line them up down the cut in hopes of reaching Forbes Ave; afterwards all cans are donated to the local food bank. This year Alpha Chi Omega donated 125 cans to this great project, placing 4th in number of cans collected.

Ninjas Against Domestic Violence

Ninjas Tournament
Pioneered in 2010, NADV is the kickoff to the year's Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. An epic competition of speed and coordination, NADV brings together the campus community for a giant tournament of the popular Orientation ice-breaker game, Ninja. The purpose of the event is to spread awareness and raise money for the Pittsburgh Women's Shelter.
