  About Fighting Spirit

Fighting Spirit is a transference of the hope, strength and willpower embodied by its creators to women who are newly diagnosed, in treatment for breast cancer, coping with life after treatment, or experiencing a recurrence. It is an online resource that engages with women on a highly personal level. The content and information is written and designed so that the woman can “start with the basics” to reduce anxiety, foster understanding, access local resources, and educate visitors about treatment options.

"Courage is Fear that has said its prayers"

-Anne Lamott

The Fighting Spirit site is written and designed to provide information in a supportive way that is clinically accurate and presented in a manner that is relevant to each woman who accesses the site. Fighting Spirit is a way of using the Web not only to share information about breast cancer related issues, but also to enter into dialogues with members of the breast cancer community about the concerns that we all share.

The site is a collaborative effort between breast cancer survivors, family members of survivors and health care personnel, each of who has a heightened sense of appreciation for the emotional chaos experienced by women who are newly diagnosed, are currently undergoing treatment, or who have recently completed treatment. Through their experiences, they can bring order to chaos by presenting information in a logical fashion with the utmost sensitivity to what you or a member of your family or a friend may be experiencing at the time. All information on the site is reviewed and approved by the Magee/UPCI Breast Program physicians and staff, thus achieving a credible site.
