1/17/2010- This season, since we have fewer polo practice times available, Nikki and I have been coming up with ways to keep us all in shape. We've brainstorming a bunch of ideas and think we came up with some that can work. The first, and probably greatest and most important idea, is swimming assignments! Don't cringe, its not going to be difficult or overly involved; we just want to get everyone in the pool more than our Monday and Wednesday practice nights. Rec swim times are: Weekdays- 7-8am, 11:30-1:30, 7-8:30 pm I am usually in the pool Tuesdays and Thursdays around 12-1. Nikki will be going sometime, and let you know when. We really need to try and keep in shape this season; it is our first competitive season, but also the first time we've had practices arranged as they are. Doing a little extra will help everyone out (plus, makes excellent study breaks)!! Clare

1/14/2010- DUES! For those of you who were at practice last night, you already know that dues are "due" by next Friday. For those who were *not* at practice last night, your dues need to be paid by next Friday, January 22nd. **If you are on the traveling team (aka will be attending the tournaments with us) you owe me $80** **If you are NOT traveling (aka will just be practicing with us), you owe me $30** Myrka ------------------ Clare says: If you aren't sure you are going to travel, you can pay us $30 now and the rest later if you end up coming. We by no means saying those 9 are the only people who can travel this year; if any of you changed your mind or want to consider it, let us know :)

1/11/2010- Hey girls, Hope everyone had an awesome break. In other news, Corinne stepped down as fundraiser at the end of last semester, and over break, the board decided to appoint Alice to co-fundraising chair. We're excited to have her enthusiasm and baked goods working for us this term! Also, Fiona will be in China until January 16th, so if anyone needs to talk about presidential things before then, send them Myrka's way. Also also, keep in mind everyone needs to pay dues to Myrka soon. And we will keep reminding everyone until people pay. As always, try and let me or Nikki know if you won't be at practice. Clare

12/18/2009 – Dues! ****IMPORTANT****** If you are on the TRAVELING TEAM, you need to pay **$80** by the end of *January* at the absolute *latest* If you are planning on PRACTICING ONLY, you need to pay *$30* by the end of *January* at the *latest* as well ** If you can't, for whatever reason, pay the full amount you need to, let the board know and we can figure something out.** For those who are still wondering, it is vital that we collect dues this semester especially...the money is going towards balls, caps, hotel rooms, league dues....etc. Yay finals and going home soon :D Myrka ------------------ Clare says: Paying the team dues this semester not only helps us in the immediate sense, but makes sure that we will continue to grow, and BE ABLE TO LOWER DUES. I know paying for practicing is new, but if makes a difference. If you need one of us to sit down and show you our budget to prove it to you, then we will. But TRUST US, where we are at, $30 makes a difference.

12/18/2009- November & December Updates! (1) Bake sales, bake sales. Yes. We're good at them. November fundraisers earned about $200. (2) Nikki and Myrka attended the Student Senate GB meeting on 11/5 and secured $1200 for the team. You girls rock! (3) We scrimmaged the University of Pittsburgh's Women's Water Polo team on 11/8. We are looking forward to scheduling more games in the future to get ready for the Spring season! (4) The transition period between co-ed and separate Men and Women's teams is in full swing. As the teams become separate, they will become smaller, meaning that everyone needs to become more involved and look to pick up leadership positions. Practice times have been adjusted to accomodate both teams. Now is the time to get excited and amp up our practice time together! Go Tartans! (5) Joining CWPA: We've signed the Participation Agreement, which is basically a promise to show up for all our games in the spring, and we've sent in our $100 deposit to the CWPA, securing us a spot in the league tournaments. For those interested, an outline of the whole process can be found here: (6) Board meeting minutes through the end of the Fall semester have been posted.

9/10/2009 – GOING COMPETITIVE! First and foremost, is the exciting news that we, CMU Women's Water Polo, will become competitive for the Spring 2010 season, ie., THIS SPRING! What does this mean? For those who are new, it may be helpful to know that until March of last year, the women's team did not even exist. We were recognized by CMU last Spring, and began having our Wednesday night practices. By going competitive this Spring, we will be eligible to play in CWPA (Collegiate Water Polo Association, the umbrella organization for club water polo) women's tournaments. We have never done this before. We will get to go to three tournaments, exact dates unknown but most like the weekends of February 20th, March 20th, and sometime in April (NOT CARNIVAL). Practices will most likely be twice a week for women only during the spring; a Sunday night and Wednesday night. These changes are going to seriously help our level of recognition as a team. One of the important things that we want you to understand is that, for all these fun and amazing things to happen, we will need a lot of help from everyone. Whether you are a more senior and experienced player or a new freshman, any/everything you can commit to us will be unreasonably appreciated. The biggest challenge we will face this term is funding. To become a competitive team, we must pay league dues. League dues sing the tune of $1900, payable by January. Given our current worth of roughly $700, this is a lofty, yet not unreachable goal. Two big changes will be happening: a) We will have women's dues. Last term we did not have any dues, as the team only practiced a few times. This term, and next term, we will have dues. While we won't be traveling or playing tournaments this fall, we will still be asking you all to pay; obviously we understand that extenuating circumstances do exist, but we really urge you all to pitch in. We will finalize amounts once we have elected a treasurer, but they will probably be in the neighborhood of $35 this term and $50-60 in the spring. This is more than the coed team has ever had, and it is the highest we hope it will ever be. As the years progress we will run into more funding, and dues will not need to be nearly as high. b) There will be a lot of fundraising. In fact, the more fundraising we conquer, the lower dues may get. We are applying for more Student Senate funding, however, we don't know how much we will get and what it will cover. Fundraising helps us be able to buy things like girls' balls, hotel rooms, and rental cars. These things are important, and begin to add up. Thus, sell cupcakes! The coed team had a board meeting last night, and they have agreed to essentially help us financially in anyway possible. They will be doing everything they can to help us "leave the nest", so we should be doing everything we can as well. All our funding goals are within reach, but they will take some effort (and remember, some club sports teams have to pay for EVERYTHING out of pocket...its vastly more expensive, and we don't want people to go through that). Gracias, Clare McKendry

8/26/2009 – We're going to try to pick up team lunches again this semester, so I need you to fill out the poll to tell me when you are free. Just mark the times you're available so I can figure out how to get the most people together at once. Just ignore the dates and fill in the times for monday, tuesday, etc. Even if you don't show up to practice all the time, we'd love if you'd come eat lunch with us (no one likes to be a loner!) so fill out the doodle below: http://www.doodle.com/6pw43wycg2ukmqsx Thanks, Francesca
