Carnegie Mellon University Majorettes

The Majorettes Today

In 2000, Teri arrived at Carnegie Mellon University, a Computer Science major with a Philosophy minor.  She joined the Kiltie Band and became the Feature Twirler (Majorette and Feature Twirler are almost synonymous).  For three years, Teri was the only twirler, and she choreographed and performed routines during the first quarter, fight song, and half-time show for every game.  She has used up to three batons, ribbons, hoops, flags, and Samoan knives.

In 2003, Nicole (Civil & Environmental Engineering, French & Francophone Studies, Biomedical Engineering) and Angela (Architecture) arrived at Carnegie Mellon University.  Nicole already knew Teri, and they had twirled a couple times during the summer, and now she was excited to become another Feature Twirler.  Nicole has used up to two batons, ribbons, glowsticks, and Samoan knives.  Teri taught her the routines, and they performed at each game (minus the game where the Band Director wouldn’t let her come because she had mono, and in the 2004 season when she was decommissioned thanks to her left ankle).

Nicole loved to teach random people, so with the help of Teri and Angela, Nicole drafted a proposal for the Carnegie Mellon University Majorettes and submitted it to the Student Government.  On April 22, 2004, the Carnegie Mellon University Majorettes was recognized as an official club on campus.

In 2004, the Majorettes welcomed Jen (Psychology) who created the Kiltie Band Color Guard, also learning baton twirling. Ann (Mathematical Sciences) also joined the Majorettes, learning how to twirl; her future plans are to keep learning so that she can perform with the Kiltie Band soon!

The 2005 season welcomes our first male Majorette, Joe (Psychology).
