Cryptographic Service Fix (Win XP)

The Cryptographic Service provides three management services: Catalog Database Service, which confirms the signatures of Windows files; Protected Root Service, which adds and removes Trusted Root Certification Authority certificates from this computer; and Key Service, which helps enroll this computer for certificates. If this service is stopped, these management services will not function properly. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

For unknown reasons, the Cryptographic Service databases can become corrupted resulting in failed Microsoft software updates, program installs, and driver installs. The standard fix is to re-initialize the databases and re-register the dll files associated with the service. The fixdb.bat file automates this process.

Download fixdb.bat, reboot the target computer, run the bat file, reboot again, and then check if the problem has been resolved.
