Boot.ini (from Win XP)

Version N/A
Description

Near the beginning of the boot process, NTLDR reads boot.ini to determine what Windows installations are present and where they are located (disk partition/folder path). If more than one is present, a boot menu is presented.

These files are the default versions for typical pre-SP2 and post-SP2 Win XP installs (SP2 introduced the noexecute option). NOTE: Some factory installed machines have utility/diagnostic partitions occupying partition(1) and you will need to modify theses files to point to partition(2) as the Windows partition .

boot.ini normally has the System and Hidden attributes set.

If the boot.ini file has been accidentally deleted or corrupted, you can use BartPE - Carnegie Mellon Help Center Edition (Restricted Access) to restore it and boot the machine again.

Download, modify accordingly, and place in %homedrive%\ (normally C:\).
