About the Symposium
On Thursday, April 29th, 2010, the Graduate Biomedical Engineering Society and the Biomedical Engineering department will host the fifth annual Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology Research Symposium (BEBRS). The symposium brings together student researchers working on biomedical and biotechnology problems from all corners of campus, with the aims of disseminating scientific knowledge, fostering collaboration, and showcasing the cutting-edge and interdisciplinary research that is being pursued at Carnegie Mellon University.

Dr. Kristi Anseth
Designer Biomaterials to Promote Tissue Regeneration
Background
- Kristi Anseth, Ph.D. is Tisone and Distinguished Professor and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator in the Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering at University of Colorado. She is additionally Associate Professor of Surgery in the School of Medicine at the University of Colorado's Health Sciences Center.
- She is a prolific and forefront figure in the fields of biomaterials and tissue engineering.
- Dr. Anseth is member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies and of the National Academy of Engineering
- Her awards and honors include the Alan T. Waterman Award, the Allan P. Colburn Award, the Curtis W. McGraw Award, the Materials Research Society's Outstanding Young Investigator Award, the Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award, and the Professional Progress Award, American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Location and Directions
BEBRS 2010 will take place in the Grand Room, located on the third floor of Posner Hall, home to the Tepper School of Business (labeled 17 on the map, and colored red). The Grand Room offers state of the art facilities and a sprawling view of campus and the Oakland skyline. Located centrally on Carnegie Mellon's campus, Posner Hall is only minutes from the Biomedical Engineering office in Doherty Hall. Street parking (may) be available on Margaret Morrison Street, Tech Avenue, and Frew Street, though attendees arriving by car are advised to park in the parking deck next to the University Center (label P7 on the map and colored purple). Bus routes which stop at Forbes and Beeler (next to the parking deck) include: the 56U, 59U, 61A, 61B, 61C, 61D, 61F, and 69A
