Counterpoint (2011)

meet our lovely members

Kelsey Briggs

KELSEY BRIGGS, PRESIDENT

Year: 2012

Part: Soprano II

Major: Materials Science Engineering, Biomedical Engineering

Bio: Kelsey has been with Counterpoint throughout her four years at Carnegie Mellon and she has never been more proud to be in such a fun and talented organization. When she isn't at practice or spending time with her CP girls, she can be found googling puppy breeds, watching South Park, or procrastinating in some other way. It is no coincidence that Kelsey is usually found rocking purple flair as purple is the base color of her wardrobe.

Ellen Obenshain

ELLEN OBENSHAIN, VICE PRESIDENT

Year: 2013

Part: Alto II

Major: Civil Engineering, minor in Music Technology

Bio: Ellen loves rubber duckies, cheese, dogs, and all things green. She often dances along to the music in her head, occasionally singing it as well. You can usually find her banging on stuff with things at Kiltie Band, discovering how objects break as part of her major, or standing outside in the freezing cold very early in the morning on weekends because of buggy.

Rachel Johnson

RACHEL JOHNSON, MUSIC DIRECTOR

Year: 2013

Part: Soprano II

Major: Psychology

Bio: Rachel has always loved rolling down hills, but while she used to only be able to roll down grassy hills in warm weather, she now gets to spend her weekend mornings rolling down paved roads in a tiny car. When she's not in a buggy, she's often found doing photography or singing and attempting to play many different instruments. She loves gummy vitamins, cute umbrellas, Philly sports teams, and she has recently acquired a love of cooking. She did a cappella for all of high school, and she missed it a lot. She's super-excited that now she gets to get to sing with the lovely ladies of Counterpoint and bring the harmonizing back into her life.

Hannah Marks

HANNAH MARKS, TREASURER

Year: 2014

Part: Soprano I

Major: Vocal Performance

Bio: Hannah is from San Antonio, Texas. She has been performing for audiences since the age of 5 and thoroughly enjoys the stage. Hannah loves animals of all kinds and she wishes her three cats could live in the dorm with her; maybe next year. Pasta and Mexican food are staples along with mint chocolate chip ice cream. Her love of all genres of music has helped her realize, “I don’t sing because I’m happy, I’m happy because I sing.”

Maggie Bignell

MAGGIE BIGNELL, PR CHAIR

Year: 2014

Part: Alto II

Major: Communication Design, Human-Computer Interaction

Bio: Maggie is from Santa Cruz, California. She has always loved singing a capella music, so she's so excited to have joined Counterpoint! When she's not singing, she's stomping on crunchy leaves or joyously skipping through the formerly-unknown concept of snow...or, more likely, in studio. She doesn't understand those who don't like chocolate and she has an obsession with the color blue (but purple is awesome, too!).

Elizabeth Li

ELIZABETH (LIZZIE) LI, WEBMASTER

Year: 2013

Part: Alto I

Major: Information Systems, Human-Computer Interaction, minor in Business Administration

Bio: Lizzie's hobbies include being a ninja, pretending to be tall, training to become a Pokémon master, and noms. Her ultimate dream is to obtain the power of flight and journey around the world spreading sunshine and rainbows to all. But don't be fooled by how adorable she is; Lizzie is not ashamed to take your chocolate.

Rachel Abrams

RACHEL ABRAMS

Year: 2015

Part: Soprano II

Major: Dramaturgy

Bio: Being accepted into Counterpoint was a dream come true for Rachel, who has been dying to sing in a collegiate a cappella group ever since she could spell “a cappella.” Born and raised on Long Island, NY, she has lots of classical music and musical theater credentials from high school, yadda yadda yadda... When she’s not singing, Rachel is most likely playing her harp, surfing YouTube, or being a workaholic. Rachel loves tight harmonies, being a redhead (though people try to tell her she’s a brunette... false), anything Disney-related, chocolate-covered strawberries, dancing (especially salsa!), telling stories, and anything purple (which is, conveniently, her favorite color). More than anything else, Rachel loves to make people smile, and she knows you will smile when you hear the lovely Counterpoint ladies sing!

Alyssa Cook

ALYSSA COOK

Year: 2015

Part: Alto I

Major: Chemical Engineering

Bio: Alyssa always has a song stuck in her head, whether that be a jingle she just heard on the radio or a song she was listening to while doing her homework. It is rare to find Alyssa when she is not singing, humming, or whistling something. After singing in an all female a cappella group in high school, she is excited to be a part of Counterpoint! When she's not singing, she can be found solving a Rubik's Cube or watching the Syfy channel on TV. Alyssa loves Disney movies and she still gets goosebumps every time she sees the Wishes fireworks display at Walt Disney World.

Liana Kong

LIANA KONG

Year: 2015

Part: Alto I

Major: Design

Bio: Liana is really tiny. Like really, really tiny. When's she's not fitting into tiny spaces, she's taking her daily nap, eating lots of peanut butter and banana sandwiches, and surfing the internet for unhealthy amounts of time. She loves music like she loves cake (and that's a lot) and is super excited to be in Counterpoint! Huzzah!

Campbell Rogers

CAMPBELL ROGERS

Year: 2015

Part: Alto II

Major: BSA Vocal Performance, Mathematics

Bio: Campbell loves purple. She’s from Newton, MA and her favorite foods are oreos and ice cream, especially when they’re mixed together. When Campbell isn’t singing, which is rare, you can find her in her room either eating, procrastinating her math homework, or staying up way too late doing absolutely nothing. She also loves to spend time outside enjoying the sunlight. She could not be happier to be a part of Counterpoint with so many amazingly talented (and crazy) people!
