Call for Papers

5th Annual

Pittsburgh Graduate Philosophy Conference

March 15 & 16, 2003

Statement of purpose: This conference is designed to give graduate students the opportunity to deliver and hear talks in philosophy, philosophy of science, and logic, while establishing peer contacts in the field. It is an opportunity to give research-oriented talks in a professional setting. Since the talks will be aimed at graduate students, it is hoped that the talks will be accessible to most attendees. Attendance of the conference is free and open to the public. The conference is sponsored jointly by the CMU Philosophy Department, the Pitt Philosophy Department, the Pitt History and Philosophy of Science Department, and Pitt's Center for Philosophy of Science. This year the conference will be hosted by Carnegie Mellon University.

Conference format: Each speaker will have approximately 30 minutes to present his or her paper. Each paper will be commented on by a graduate student from University of Pittsburgh or Carnegie Mellon University. There will also be discussion periods, after each comment.

Keynote Speaker: The keynote speaker will be Ruth Millikan, of the University of Connecticut.

Submission guidelines: Deadline for submissions is January 15, 2003. Papers may be on any topic in philosophy, philosophy of science, or logic. Neither your name nor any identifying information should be included in the body of the paper. Papers may be submitted either in hardcopy or electronically. If submitting in hardcopy, please send two copies of your paper. If submitting electronically, please send paper in MS Word (.doc), RTF, PDF, PS or DVI format.
