Pinning and Submitting from Dominant Positions
Tips for pinning and submitting from all positions:
- Always be aware of your opponent’s hips
- Drive your own hips to the mat
- Use your hips and weight to prevent your opponent from getting posture with his arms
- Establish your pin before you attack with a submission
- If a submission takes a significant amount of force to apply, you did not set it up correctly
- Use your weight and positional advantage as much as possible when performing a submission

- Mount
- Side control
- North/south
- Scarfhold
Static drilling:
- Scarfhold
- Arm triangle
- Americana with legs
Dynamic drilling:
- One partner establishes pin and goes for any submission; partner attempts any escape
- Approximately 2 minute rounds
- Vary partners and positions
Targeted rolling:
- Only submissions from dominant positions are allowed
