Our center exists to create, develop, and advance technology to alleviate human suffering.  This is embodied in our primary research focus on the design and optimization of devices that improve the quality of human life.  We seek to apply the technological advances of other industries to medical applications; in doing so we strive to achieve an optimal solution. We emphasize innovation and creativity through the development of design tools and their application to medical problems.

Our primary research focus at present is the optimization of ventricular assist devices and recovery from cardiovascular disease.   One of our largest projects is the development of an implantable "artificial heart" for neonates and toddlers called "PediaFlow^TM"
