Current Status:  Graduate student researcher in pursuit of Ph.D. in Bioengineering

Current Area of Research: Optimal apical cannula design and placement for turbodynamic ventricular assist devices. Anatomic compatability of implantable devices.

Profile:

Arielle Drummond came to Pittsburgh after receiving her Bachelors and Masters of Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Applied Science and Biomedical Engineering, respectively.  She is currently pursuing a doctorate in Biomedical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University where she is a member of a team that is developing a pediatric ventricular assist device.  Arielle is contributing to the PVAD team by completing an anatomical compatibility study where she is developing 3D models of pediatric anatomy of the thorax and abdomen. In addition, she is developing the outflow cannula of the PVAD where she will be performing design optimization through simulation and experimentation. Finally, Arielle plans to assist the team in developing a rapid means of attachment of the outflow cannula to the heart of the patients.
