Bravo Company -

This friday, December 12, our lovely website will be taken down, so I wanted to give you all a chance to delete the bookmark from your browsers. Thanks to all for the feedback, and MIDN Woodburn for helping out. And a hearty BZ and best of luck to MIDN Herold and MIDN Osius as they move on to bigger and better things next semester.

Very Respectfully,
MIDN 4/C Hinson

Lt. Colonel Viers said something to us after our performance on the drill deck that I think sums up the weekend very nicely. To paraphrase, the nice thing about being a 4th or 3rd class this year is that next year we'll be 3rd and 2nd class. And 2nd and 1st after that. The majority of us were completely new to this kind of competition, but now that we know what's expected of us, we can work all the harder to perform at Tulane. And if our teams stick together, there's no reason that we can't be bringing home trophies in the future. We'll see you all at PT.

Well, the evening has almost drawn to a close. While the only participation we had in the awards ceremony was ceremoniously standing there, for such a large batch of freshmen we did very well for ourselves. The MEC teams were all very competitive, both Color Guard teams had strong showings, and our drill team survived a merciless grilling by three Gunnery Sergeants. This experience will undoubtedly be usefull as we prepare for Tulane.

MIDN Davenport (take my word for it) leading the offense for the basketball team. This was the last event of the evening; no word as of this post who won this game.

MIDs Renna and Simmons prepare to demonstrate their prowess at spinning their rifles.

MIDN Stuckey attempts to run off with a pizza that MIDN Renna had pilfered from a fellow midshipman. Fortunately, the pizza was returned to it's rightful owner.

The final scores for all our teams shall, of course, be posted as they are gathered. Also, MIDN Derr has been dilligently videotaping our performances, which will no doubt aid us in zeroing in on exactly what needs improvment, as well as providing several hours of entertaining documentary.

Reception for my wireless connection at this corner cafe is spotty, and I know that the pictures aren't showing up yet. Hopefully I'll get to change that before the day is out.

The events for Drill Team and Color Guard are over for the day, as are most of the MEC competitions. Overall the Drill Team did well for being composed almost entirely of freshmen, and our swimmers are confident of a strong second or third finish. Still to come: MIDN Simmon and Renna's much-anticipated Exhibition Drill, and an awards ceremony at 1900. If all goes well, we'll have a few pictures of trophies to post.

Hope 'yall are enjoying your weekends! We're having an "Outstanding" time.

I hardly need mention that we made it safe and sound to Ithaca, although there was some question as to whether we'd be able to fit everyone and their personal gear AND their plastic-cased SDB's AND their rifles AND themselves into the vans without seriously bending the laws of physics. "Crowded" only barely describes the conditions; one could say that sardines have it easier.

MIDN Kalei is being fed a Subway napkin, as a reward for falling asleep before we even made it to the parkway.

MID's Kalei and Flynn using the buddy system.

Our one pit stop on this six hour journey placed us somewhere in Nowhere, NY, where there was enough snow on the ground to dig your hands into. Naturally, a snowball fight ensued.

One side arrayed against the other...

Our forces were slightly unbalanced. MIDN Derr nearly brought her promising career to an abrupt end when she (accidentally) fired a snowball at Gunnery Sergeant's boot. He must have been in a good mood, because she's still with us in one peice.

Edibles consumed for morning repast at the local college-supported bagel shoppe. MIDN Treabol laughs at a bag of chips.

MIDN Phillips in front of Phillips Hall. We're not sure what they do in there, but we're sure that we'd be proud of it.

There are many other teams here, and I won't lie; some of them look pretty sharp. No one else seems to be having a good time, though, but of course the best way to have a good time is to win. Following the competitions there will be more updates and the results of our own efforts.
