Binding.  The Fab (= antigen binding fraction) portion of an antibody has Kd = 12.7 ± 0.7 nM, where Kd is reported as the mean ± one standard deviation, for its target antigen.  A biosensor manufacturer would like to use this Fab fragment as the basis for a biosensor to determine the concentration of this antigen in urine samples.  In this particular manufacturer’s design, the biosensor’s output signal would be proportional to the fraction of the Fab fragments that bind antigen.  The concentration of antigen in samples is expected to greatly exceed the concentration of immobilized Fab fragments on the sensor.

a.    What would be the fraction of bound Fab fragments be for antigen concentrations of 1.00 ± 0.05 nM and 100 ± 5 nM?  Antigen concentrations are given as the mean ± one standard deviation.  Propagate errors so that fractions are reported as fractions ± one standard error. 

b.    Could this sensor be used to distinguish between samples with antigen concentrations of 25 mM and 50 mM?  Why or why not?
