Historical Weekly Progress Log

Date Comment
3-16-01 There are a couple things I am working on:

1.- Report: I have added a Foreword section that describes the purpose of the study and describes the structure of the paper. This report will be available under "Main Studies"

2.- Managers Database. Have a look at the data I am collecting on managers. I have collected information on some 60 managers, but think the sample will need to be quite big to be of any use (it is difficult to get all the information for each manager)

I'll be out of town between the 21st and the 1st of April. I'll drop by your office before I leave.

2-22-01 Finally I have put together a sample of 37 companies. We'll review them in today's meeting

Subject: Data Processing sub-sector, Immigration overview, US traded Israeli companies

Ashish,

Before we meet I expect to have a sample of around 40 companies. I hope this will be enough to start doing something of real added value.

Links to today's new pieces:

Data Processing ,  (classified in Tech Sector, Data Processing)

Immigration           (classified in Government, Main facets...)

Israeli companies traded in US (classified in Tech Sector, included in the Software sector overview)

Subject: Software sector overview

Ashish,

I have started working on the overview of the software companies. I have started with the CAD/CAM sub-sector. Please let me know if this is what you had more or less in mind and if there is a specific piece of info that is important to you and I am missing or a particular aspect I should emphasize.

Click here to go to directly to the overview page. In the future you will find this info in the Tech Sector section in the switchboard.

Yours,

Rafel

01-26-01 Subject : Web presentation

Ashish,

I thought that the best way for you to keep track of the progress of this project is by means of  a Website. It will also allow you to have the materials I gather or elaborate at your fingertips. So here it is. This is not supposed to be one of those fancy webs that one can enjoy surfing for hours. Rather, I have tried to make it as simple to read and easy to maintain as possible.

Right now, there are a number of sections in the main switchboard -to your left- that have not been activated yet, but I am working on it. Also, we may find a few "bugs" during the first few weeks (spreadsheets that ask you to select with which program to open and things of that nature; nothing really serious), but I hope I'll get better in this, otherwise, brainless task of webmastering.

I would like that we met sometime this coming Friday morning or maybe Monday. There are a number of issues that I would like to comment with you. Among others, I'd like that we set up priorities and start narrowing the scope of this project to something that can be useful for both and doable by the end of April. Please let me know what time is best for you.

In the meantime, I am going to devote the time I have for this project in three main tasks:

  • Continue classifying and updating the tonnes of information that I have on Israel and its High Tech sector.
  • Write the overviews for each section. (Not a real paper; just a one page document presenting the most relevant data)
  • Clean up the databases I have compiled. This has been the bulk of my work but, since I have used several different sources, they need to be "homogenized" to be of any use.
