Lecture 12: Normalization

Every term in the (typed) lambda calculus can be reduced to one that is normal. Moreover, this normal form of a term is unique, by the Church-Rosser theorem. We give (partial) proofs of these fundamental results, and discuss some of their consequences, like the subformula property.
