home * inspiration and research * user needs * scenerio development * final product

Comfort

  • user feel confident and trusting of the system
  • not intimidating to use
  • not distracting to use, does not take attention away from the task at hand but helps the user to accomplish that task
  • user is able to trust the agent and the advice/directions it gives; helpful
  • personal safety in the kitchen is not compromised by using agent; agent will have health and safety in mind (i.e. remind you to wash the knife that just cut raw meat before using again)
Control
  • user needs to feel as if they are controlling the agent, not the agent controlling or restricting them
  • different layers of control based on users and tasks
  • ability to manage multiple tasks such as keeping track of your cooking process (single and multiple dish) and the status of tools (in use, clean, dirty)
  • ability to accesses information outside of what you already know or tell the interface; needs to bring new knowledge to the user
  • ability to balance a variety of kinds of information such as a grocery list and schedule managed on a portable device so that you can access information at grocery stores, etc.
  • interface needs to be integrated with all kitchen tools to create centralized control station
  • agent needs to perform tasks on its own if the user asks it to (i.e. put food in a processor and agent will cook based on recipe or automatically turn appliances on and off)
Adaptability
  • communication between user and agent is not too intrusive or annoying
  • design of the agent is not too loud (many users would not want people to know that they do not know how to handle their kitchen, etc)
  • agent learns the userŐs habits and customizes itself to your capability and methods in the kitchen
  • agent knows what you have in your kitchen as well as the amount so as not to give suggestions or directions that the user would not be able to carry out; also allows user and agent to create shopping lists and menus based on the kitchen inventory
  • agent needs to make suggestions (storage methods, new recipes, substitutions)
  • agent needs to understand all of the activities that occur in a kitchen that are not cooking or preparing food (i.e. crafts, cleaning, etc)
Success
  • user needs to feel that they have been successful in their tasks
  • user needs the meal to be a success
