Common Operations in MSVC
Project File Management:
- To Create a New File and Project: File Menu -> New -> Text File. Then from the Build menu, choose Build. A message box
will be displayed asking if you would like to create a project workspace. Choose Yes.
The Save As dialog box appears if you have not yet given the source file a name. If necessary, give the
source file a new name, with an extension for a file such as .C, .CXX, or .CPP for Visual C++. Then choose OK.
- To Insert Files into the project that has now been created: Insert Menu -> Files into Project
To add an open source file to a project: With the mouse pointer in the source file, click the right mouse button.
From the pop-up menu, choose Insert File into Project, and select the project name from the cascading menu.
- To remove files from a project
Select the file in FileView, and from the Edit menu, choose Delete.

Press the DEL key.
- To Save Files: File Menu -> Save As
Building and Running:
- Building a project will compile and link files and create the executable.
To Build: Build Menu -> Build
To go to error location: click on error message
- To Run Project: Build Menu -> Execute
Debugging:
- To Launch Debugger -> Build Menu -> Debug -> Go
