4B. Apply External Loads

As stated in the problem description, the tensile pressure load is applied to the plate on both sides (Uniaxial tension)

PREPROCESSOR ->
DefineLoads

      DEFINE LOADS -> Apply

            APPLY -> Structural

                  STRUCTURAL -> Pressure

PRESSURE -> On Lines

ANSYS GRAPHICS WINDOW ->Select the line on both left and right side of the plate. Then click
APPLY in the APPLY PRES ON LINES Window.

APPLY PRES ON LINES -> Enter -20000 for the Load PRES value. The value is negative, because it is a tensile load. Note that values of the loads enter in this problem are all in pounds. (see Figure below)

Click OK. However, you might see the warning window that looks like this.

Ignore the warning because, in the problem, we have few number of nodes on the body. Thus, applying either a distributed load or a concentrated load yields the same result. This will eventually lead to the same solution.

Then, you will see the following window which tells you that the distributed loads have already been applied on the beam.

You can see the red arrows on both sides of the plate as shown in the figure below.
