2. Class Format

One class each week on Tuesday, 3:30-4:20 pm.

On Tuesday February 1, 8 and 15th, we will have warm-up sessions. Actual presentation sessions will start on February 22nd. Each week we will have presentations by three students. Each presentation will be a total of 15 minutes long, with 12 minutes for the actual presentation, and 3 minutes for questions.  Class participation is mandatory, and all students will fill out evaluation forms.  You will be graded on both your presentation as well as on your classroom participation.

You will be required to submit a tentative title for your talk by February 8th. The week before your presentation, you are required to submit a 500-word abstract of your talk to the instructor.  You will also introduce one of the speakers that week.  The schedule of speakers is attached.

The talk may be on any scientific topic of your choice.  Suitable topics may be found by looking at magazines such as Mechanical Engineering, Scientific American and Science Today. The talk must have sufficient technical content to be interesting to the average engineer, but not so esoteric as to be intelligible only to the specialist.

If you bring the printout of your talk to Bobbi Kostyak by the Thursday before your talk, she can make black and white transparencies for  you. If you bring them in any later than the previous Thursday, she will not be able to accomodate you.

3. Feedback

The week after your presentation, you will be given written feedback on your presentation. This feedback will contain both the instructor's evaluuation, as well as a composite evaluation by your peers.
