HW7

Calculate the % ionization of a 0.20 M solution of aspirin (C9H8O4 = monoprotic acetylsalicylic acid) for which Ka = 3.0 X 10-4.

The pH of "stomach acid" (gastric juice) is typically 1.00. After a few aspirin tablets have been swallowed, the concentration of acetylsalicylic acid in the stomach reaches 0.20 M. Calculate the percent ionization of the aspirin under these conditions.
