The interhalogen compound IF3 is calculated to have a dipole moment of 2.48 D. When used with the ideal VSEPR model, the measured dipole moment can provide an estimate of the dipole moment of the fluorine-iodine bond. Draw the complete, preferred Lewis structure for IF3. Double check that your electron count is correct and then show the calculation of the dipole moment of the fluorine-iodine (FI) bond from the dipole moment of the entire molecule assuming no angular distortions. In calculating dipole moments here, the effect, if any, of lone pairs on the dipole moment magnitude may be neglected.
