15th Annual Staff Council Food Drive

Printable poster available here!

Carnegie Mellon’s 15th Annual Food Drive, sponsored by Staff Council, will take place from Monday, November 3rd through Friday, November 14th. Last year, we collected  5,676 lbs. of non-perishable items in addition to $844.51 in cash from the campus community for The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

As we enter into the fall season, please plan to participate so we are able to meet or surpass our past contributions. The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, along with the hungry in our communities, needs our help now more than ever! They have a severe food shortage right now – so much so that they’ve cancelled all of their Saturday volunteer shifts in September and October, as there is no food for the volunteers to sort and pack. Additionally, The Food Bank is reporting huge increases in the wholesale food prices that they pay. For example, the cost of 20 one-pound bags of pasta has increased 88% in two years! Whether it’s cleaning out your pantry, stocking up on sale items, or buying a little extra between now and the Food Drive to increase your gas points, do what you can now to be ready by November 3rd!

Don’t forget our featured collection days:

·On Wednesday, November 5th we will hold our One Day, One Can – in conjunction with the annual Benefits & Fitness Fair. The Food Drive Committee will be collecting non-perishables outside of the Rangos Ballroom in the University Center. Anyone who contributes will be entered into a raffle to win great prizes.

·The fourth annual Cans Across the Cut event will be held on Wednesday, November 12 from 8am – 4pm. Bring a can to the fence in an attempt to line cans from one end of the Cut to the other. Register a team online by clicking here.  The student team donating the most cans will win a trophy.
